2. Mini Training Moment - Create A Resume
The client is interested but the applicant hasn't sent you a resume yet! Never fear, StaffSoft is here!
Go to the applicant's record and in the upper menu choose Resume > Create.
This feature will copy the information from the applicant record to a word document in text format. Once there, you can pretty it up quickly to where it's presentable. Then, leaving the resume where it is, flip back to StaffSoft, choose Resume > Import and answer "Yes" to all three questions. Click "OK" on the Import Complete message and get that resume out the door!

3. Commonly Asked Questions -
- "The arrows (VAR Buttons) on the lower left, what are they for?"
They allow the recruiter to scroll through the database! Now an easy answer needs more explanation.
a. Each module has a default setting of sorting. To change the setting, go to the upper menu choose Record > Sort By and select the type of sort which will work best for your scrolling pleasure.
b. "My VAR Buttons don't work!?" Oh! I get this one often. The on/off of the button is related to your recruiter permission status. Your StaffSoft System Administrator should be able to tell you if turning them "ON" is possible.
- "When is the next StaffSoft release?"
November 2001. StaffSoft version 4 is ready! After extensive testing we are putting the finishing touches on the program, documentation, and support features.

4. Administrator's Utility Review - Use Your Letterhead for Invoices and Letters
Once this was an all or nothing item throughout StaffSoft. Have you noticed that every Form Letter now allows you to choose!
If the option is unchecked, the letter will print with the Company Name, Address, and Phone Number placed under the Utilities > System Setup Screen. Check the option to omit any printing at the top leaving room for your letterhead!

5. Manager's Moment - Wisdom from a Recruiter
Mrs. Behringer of Sycon International offers this wisdom:
"One company client actually asked me once what I would do in the event that I placed someone at her firm and the candidate later called me to say they were unhappy. I said that I would carefully deal with the situation as it arose (a good, non-committal answer).
The company HR rep's response was that I should in this case make an effort to point out to the candidate what a great company they are and how they should stay where they were because they were such a great firm; she also suggested that I should then call her to inform her of this.
This extreme and somewhat naive response is rare but represents what many HR people seem to feel is the "fault" of recruiters; that we place people and later just go back and steal them.
No recruiter "steals" anyone. This implies not only ownership of an employee by a company, but a lack of free-will on the part of the candidate. Yes, the grass is ALWAYS going to be greener on the other side of the fence; whether or not an employee chooses to chew it is a freely made choice, not any effort of coercion on the part of a recruiter.
Has anyone [of you] ever held a gun to someone and forced them to accept an offer? Has anyone ever threatened a candidate? Probably not. Although when I failed to generate interviews for a candidate I placed at a company (when he wanted to leave after six months), he threatened to tell his superiors that I had solicited him and was constantly enticing him and other employees to leave.
How many times have we TPRs been lied to by a company or candidate, either one that swore that we were the "only agency" they were working with, or by a candidate that swore he was going to accept our offer - and no-showed on the first day of the job.
The challenge in this industry is to stay ethical in a somewhat unethical business. After all, when you're dealing with people's livelihood and how they spend 80% of their waking hours, it is a sensitive issue. We are in a society where not everyone is honest, and everyone feels that "their" interests are at best, and TPRs are only in it for the money in the eyes of clients on both the candidate and company client side. Yet these same individuals don't feel any remorse about making outrageous salary demands themselves or (on the company side) holding out for the below-market salary they want to offer.
It is easy to succumb to the temptation of poor ethics with the exception of one thing. For those of us in this for the long haul, trust and reputation are everything. I haven't survived nearly 12 years in this business without my share of bumps along the road but when I went on a job search my primary references were company clients - human resources managers I had worked with as a TPR. My employer as a TPR may change, but I will always remain the same; my reputation goes with me everywhere."
